About
Ric Sherman began his music manufacturing career in 1988 and spent years with Nimbus/Technicolor, Denon, Music City Optical Media, OEM/CDA & Furnace.
Ric has developed an expertise in all aspects of manufacturing & project management, keeping customers’ artistic, financial, and scheduling needs in focus. With many projects handled by clients with varying degrees of manufacturing experience, Ric effectively operates as an extension of their production department. It’s a travel agent model, setting up labels, managers, and artists directly with the most appropriate vendors and guiding them thru the process of getting their recordings manufactured. The Production Department is paid by the vendor only, which puts you at an operational and economic advantage –vs. having a broker’s large, often duplicated infrastructure sit in between. Ric functions as the main point of contact, along with the vendor’s solid customer service staff.
Microforum (in Toronto) has been a principal resource for most vinyl and disc manufacturing. They’re a mid-sized plant with a robust operating system, and the only North American plant with cutting/plating/printing/vinyl pressing/disc manufacturing & assembly- under one roof. The staff is also incredibly kind and resourceful. One key part of their offerings, are very small runs of vinyl – that can be quick and economical (50? 100? 200?). Small, mid, large projects are all handled with the same enthusiasm and value.
For European manufacturing, Sonopress has been a successful partner for projects that require a heavy percentage, or exclusive distribution in Europe.
Ric and his wife, Donna, have raised two sons, a music industry attorney, and a professional jazz musician. However, his accountant refuses to allow family dinners to be written off as a business expense. Ric’s currently finishing his 3rd album as guitarist with “Glenn Morrow’s Cry For Help.”
