Audien

Audien (Nathaniel Rathbun) is an American DJ, record producer, and musician; Grammy-Nominated Audien hails from Mystic, Connecticut, from a musical household where his mother is a jazz aficionado. In 2008, he was introduced to electronic dance music through trance songs in video game soundtracks. Fascinated by the sound of trance, he learned to recreate songs from Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance podcasts.

Following the release of his first single "Rise & Shine" on Ferry Corsten's Flashover Recordings, Audien continued with a string of releases on Anjunabeats, Armada Music, Spinnin’ Records, and Astralwerks. Audien has established himself as a fixture in the dance community, known for his production prowess and unique propensity for uplifting melodies.

In 2015, Audien signed to Astralwerks and released his debut EP 'Daydreams' featuring standout "Rooms". Later in 2015 he was Grammy Nominated for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remix of the Bastille song, "Pompeii". His remix of “Pompeii” became a global hit, being the most played record during EDC and Coachella of that year and to this day being a tentpole in numerous A-Tier DJs sets. In March of the same year, Audien released the single "Insomnia", which peaked at number one on the US Dance Charts. 2015 track "Something Better" featuring Lady A cracked the Billboard Top 40; marking Audien's first appearance on a pop chart ultimately reaching #29. The track had already gone to number 1 on US Dance Charts.

The following years solidified his signature sound and garnered the support of industry veterans with tracks like "Crazy Love" featuring Deb's Daughter, "One More Weekend" featuring MAX, and a trap-influenced collaboration fusing melodic & heavy components with 3LAU titled "Hot Water". Audien continued on a path of global dominance and worked with the likes of Echosmith on the track "Favorite Sound" while creating timeless official remixes of songs by Coldplay, Halsey, Nile Rodgers, Jess Glynne, and Calvin Harris.

In September 2017, Audien released his EP 'Some Ideas' on Astralwerks. The three-track EP contained "Rampart" which is a collaboration with hardstyle producer Gammer and "Message" whose sounds are reflective of past Anjunabeats releases and familiar Audien tones.

In 2018, Audien returned to Anjunabeats with his release of "Higher", followed by "Never Letting Go" with Arty later that same year. In November 2019, Audien released his LP ‘Escapism' — a definitive effort encapsulating both Audien’s signature style and his dominance in the dance landscape which included hit songs “Reach” featuring Jamie Hartman and “Buzzing” with Nevve.

Audien is no stranger to hard work, and has continued to release music while honing in on his signature sound and style. In 2021 he signed with Armada and put out 3 singles that year — one of them being "Wish It Was You" with Cate Downey that has brought energy and emotion back to the dance floor and ultimately becoming the #1 Dance Radio record. Following up in 2022 he released the #1 Dance Radio record; One Last Dance ft Xira.

In 2022 Audien launched the ‘Progressive House Never Died’ brand. Which featured a debut at Miami Music week and then led to a 100% sold out North American tour featuring a Hollywood Palladium as well as the most talked about EDC set.

He followed up the tour with 2 back to back records; Drifting Away ft Joe Jury which reached the #2 spot on Dance Radio charts and Drifting Away ft Jordan Grace.

To begin 2023, he released Antidote ft. JT Roach; a progressive house anthem and announced Progressive House Never Died NYC at Avant Gardner; which sold 500 tickets in the first 60 seconds of on-sale. Following a tremendous 2023; he played at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in July as his debut Stay-True headline show. In the early fall of 2023, he released a new single, titled “Superhero”. In 2024 he headlined WaMu Theater, Echostage, Brooklyn Mirage, Mission Ballroom and more; as he rolls into the summer.

I have always been a Logic guy. I really think that the interface and its behavior as a native Mac app really streamline my workflow. I find that Logic is designed to prioritize tasks. What I’m looking for is where I expect to find it. I don’t need to think about the design or where to go next. I generally mix as I go and then master once the record is done. In my opinion, Logic is the most mixing-friendly DAW. I like that you can see channel plugins at a glance, and the routing is also way better than other DAWs.

I absolutely love Omnisphere’s features. I think that its synth integration and control is out of this world. I think the FX units that are integrated and can be modulated are also amazing resources beyond being able to stack and work on patch-layering.

The Nexus plug-in suite is such an amazing portfolio of synthesizer plug-ins. I think the sonic quality here is second to none. And the ability to visually route things so that what you hear and what you see are the same is extremely helpful.

Splice almost needs no introduction. It’s a cloud-based tool that includes a sample library, audio plug-ins and integrates directly with DAW’s. Besides the ability to find royalty-free samples; I think it’s an amazing tool to help get the creative juices flowing and really craft together a record.

Audio Gear - Headphones, Speakers & Microphones

The entire line of Focal headphones is absolutely incredible. I personally like the open-back drivers but they also offer close-back driver headphones. The precision and finesse of the sound in these headphones is next level. It’s really like wearing an entire studio over your ears. The soundstage is so wide that I really feel like I’m able to hear the very minutiae in each record that I produce.
